IBM Annual Report Surprised Me

Category IBM/Lotus

It's out, and I'm impressed that the breakout numbers for Lotus show an increase of 8.7%. That messaging/collaboration franchise has really paid off for IBM's investment.

In terms of hardware, mainframe (z series) and the AS/400 iSeries took declines of about 10%. The AIX (p series), though, increased by 8.8%--which is really impressive. I didn't expect there to be an increase in these systems (though, I have no questions about their technical prowess).

It's intriguing to me that the geographic distribution of IBM's revenue is three times greater in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) than it was in the Americas.

I'll bet that next year, the Lotus break out numbers will best 10%.
