Outstanding Java Application for Analyzing Code by Teamstudio

Category Programming

Teamstudio has an enviable reputation in the IBM/Lotus world. They have outlasted flashier competitors, and continued to make sensible tools. The Java Analyzer uses over 190 rules to inspect code, and is a plug-in for the leading Java IDEs (JBuilder, Eclipse, WSAD, Oracle9i Developer, et al.). It runs on the Win32 platform, but also with Linux—if you use a supported IDE. The cost is $300 US w/one year of maintenance.

It is built on preconfigured rules, which are best-practice standards and coding patterns. If you are coding with a compliant IDE, then I can’t imagine a justification for avoiding the Analyzer. Most departments have leaned out quite a bit on staff for testing and code walkthroughs. This tool at least gives the coder a reasonable base of support. It will take junior programmers and educate them on the right way to work code.

The best part of the Java Analyzer is that you don’t have to trust a review. Download an evaluation copy and run through some of your work. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that they will continue to keep the price low.
