Open Source, Microsoft, and Yahoo's Dim Future

Category

Ray Ozzie has defined open source as "much more potentially disruptive" than Google for Microsoft's business model. I think it's obvious that open source contributed to the Microsoft-Yahoo merger break-up.

Sadly, the sharks are already circling Yahoo, and I expect that eventually it will be broken up and sold piecemeal to satiate the stockholders. Microsoft can then be free to bid on the parts that fit more easily into its corporate vision. I guess instead of a Microhoo, it'll be something more like a Microminihoo. Sounds like a small victory, to me.

Gravatar Image2 - Wouldn't it be great if Yahoo could continue, unchanged ? However, I think the Microsoft offer cut into Yahoo enough that there is blood in the water. I'm guessing that in our US down market, there will eventually be a shareholder revolt of some sort that breaks Yahoo.

Gravatar Image1 - Knowing people who used to work at Yahoo, they love the BSD there and the Macs. Again Microsoft takes over what it can't beat. Yahoo should stand it's ground and not give in. It would be a huge change in where the line in the sand is drawn....
