Leadership By Numbers :: Lotus Notes Diagnostic Has Finally Been Released !

Knowledge is not power, but learning is. As kids, we made art with paint-by-number kits. Simply matching the outline numbers with an oil paint gave us the illusion of mastery. I've worked in all facets of the IT industry: as IT management, as a consultant, systems administrator, developer and instructor. And, I still see a lot of paint-by-number projects which try to be the real thing. IT leadership is about reading the numbers, then going outside the lines and taking risks.

Lotus Notes Diagnostic Has Finally Been Released !

When faced with an implacable Domino system crash, the routine solution is to send off the NSD log to IBM/Lotus for their review. They, in turn, apply the log to their Lotus Notes Diagnostic (LND) tool. The LND has long been yearned for by every admin who has heard of it.

IBM/Lotus has graciously uploaded the latest version of LND into the Lotus DeveloperWorks Sandbox.

If you are programmer, you might remember the excitement when NotesPeek and NotesPing were first released. Well, LND is the definitive administration tool for Domino failure analysis and will be quite worthwhile to study.

It has some cool features, like recreating the server doc from a DXL dump, NSD file comparisons, and reading through all the semaphore locks.

It does come with a help document , but there isn't much hand holding--you are going to need to know the terms and architecture of Domino to really extract value from LND.

This is a gem.
