Domino 7.0.2 Feed Generator is a Winner

Category IBM/Lotus
One of the gems in the 7.0.2 release is the RSS Feed Generator. It's very powerful, very useful and a little rough around the edges. It will take a view or folder from any Domino application and create an RSS feed to it. The magic part of it is that the source database requires no modification.

It works when someone fills out an RSS document in the feed generator database. This document references a source database and a view/folder to be represented as RSS. When a user opens the feed generator database from the web, a listing of RSS feeds are presented. If you read the URL, you'll see that an agent is being called with an argument that references the feed document. The agent reads the source view and represents it as RSS.

The RSS Feed Generator also supports iNotes, but I'm having trouble configuring it (there are some required iNotes notes.ini settings) so that it works smoothly. It's also possible to create static RSS feeds that reference PDFs and other web resources. Again, though, the configuration was awkward, and I couldn't get it to do what I thought it should do. It would be polite for me to say that the documentation is sparse.

All in all, the RSS Feed Generator is an uncut diamond. With a little polish the RSS Feed Generator is going to be very popular.
