U.S. State Department E-Mail Crippled by 'Reply to All'

Category Administration

Last week, the OpenNet e-mail system for the State Department suffered a Denial of Service attack . . . perpetrated by its own employees.  The Washington Post notes that the problem is so severe, that a warning has been sent which threatens "disciplinary actions for using the Reply to All" indiscriminately in all e-mails.

I'm trusting that many administrators would have a list of Do Not Do These Things, which could be added to the State Department warning: repeatedly sending attachments, back and forth; never culling out the in-box; never deleting mail, and because users work hard to avoid processing their e-mail, the list goes on towards ad absurdum.

My professional recommendation would be to send everyone a copy of David Allen's Getting Things Done.
