Hm mm. For those of us who include Blackberries in their messaging diet, today is leaving a bad taste. RIM is not answering calls to their support center, and as of this posting, has not announced any outage. But, they are definitely off-line, and early reports cite a North American blackout.

While you're waiting for your Blackberry to light back up with e-mail, take a moment and consider the downside of living in The Cloud. The remote, off-site storage and processing of systems transactions being “The Cloud.”
It doesn't really matter if we are examining SAAS, SOA or simple out-sourced system hosting. When the line is cut, the power is down, or the system update fails--then The Cloud vanishes. It's like a Wiley Coyote cartoon character that chases the Roadrunner right off the road edge and is suspended in air. Blink twice and drop to Earth.
