No Lotusphere for Me this Year, and I Couldn't Be Happier.

For many years I've attended Lotusphere, and for the last two years I have had the opportunity to speak and present. But, this year I'll be a no-show, and I have a long list of names to blame.
For many years I've attended Lotusphere, and for the last two years I have had the opportunity to speak and present. But, this year I'll be a no-show, and I have a long list of names to blame.
- Let me start with the SNAPPS team. It's not enough to give out design templates of extraordinary functionality, no, they had to include free development tools. Have you looked at these tools? It's going to give Sharepoint a run for the money (and I know where to place my bets). So, it comes as no surprise that I'm being tasked with updating our aging Quickplace 6.5.1 to Quickr 8.
-
- Our AIX mail cluster has had one server upgraded to ND7.0.3. I'm going to thank Daniel Nashed, for his contribution with a polished startup-script. I can run a clean-up argument to purge all the locks, and it'll even gzip up log files. Since upgrading from ND6.5.4 to ND7.0.3, responsiveness and stability have dramatically increased. So, of course, I'm expected to hurry-up-and-upgrade the second server in the mail cluster.
-
- And, then there is the Sametime upgrade. Yes, we get to move from our aging Sametime 3 to Sametime 8. The servers are in place, and RHEL 4.4 has been installed. Finally, Sametime on Linux, I wasn't sure it would ever happen. These boxes are idling for me to complete the install and configuration. I'm going to finger Adam Gartenburg for his promotion for Sametime (just look at the Network World review to measure his success). Carl Tyler and Chris Miller should also share some responsibility for my increasing workload.
-
- There are some other odds and ends around here, as well. Sean Burgess and Kevin Pettitt deserve mention for their code contributions in OpenNTF.org (the ability to export data into spreadsheets, have an infrastructure template, or extract mail attachments vastly increases Notes usefulness).
- Sure, there are more and more other people to incriminate for my being stuck in the freezing Northeast, while so many travel to warmer climes. Ed Brill, Stephan Wissel and Alan Lepfosky have worked very hard to keep me in my place. Trust me, if I didn't mention you, I know who you are and I'm keeping names. So, don't get too comfortable.
- Just you wait for next year, I might have something to talk about at Lotusphere 2009.

Say it ain't so !! You were one of the people I didn't bother to send the " Are you going to Lotusphere" email to !! We'll miss you and I guess that means the rest of the DCNUG crew will have to take really good notes for the Feb meeting.
TTYL.
