Parent Encouragement Program: CanDo Kids

This last weekend, I volunteered at the annual CanDo Festival sponsored by PEP, the Parent Encouragement Program in Silver Spring, MD. I've been a member of PEP for over ten years, and I can witness to the effectiveness of their program which aims to "teach practical parenting skills geared to each stage of your child's development."
It's an outstanding program, and the CanDo event symbolizes the self-sufficiency which all parents wish to empower to their children. Children of all ages (though, mostly grade school) are introduced to a wide range of tasks normally set aside for adults, like cooking, cleaning, pet care, good manners, and even house repairs. The two painters pictured above show the focus and diligence of anyone intent on acquiring a new skill.
