Zillow and Privacy

Category Security
zillow It seems as if everyone is fawning over Zillow, the newest, coolest, AJAXiest, WebTwoOhist, Software-as-a-Service web site. A web site that generates street maps with all the home prices on each plot.

RedMonk is pretty impressed, and you can check BlogDigger or Technorati for a million other discussions on what it is that makes Zillow ground-breaking.

Even as a beta service, visiting it generates one of those, "why didn't I think of that" moments.

Unfortunately, I find it a little too helpful in guiding me through the vagaries of my neighborhood's real-estate. Zillow offers to send email to anyone who asks, on any property when there are updates. It's somewhat disconcerning to think that anyone who wants, can be listening for financial alterations of the larger investment most Americans possess. I mean, exactly who is tracking my house?

On the other hand, houses in beautiful Charlottesville, VA, go for a song.
