AJAX was a hot topic at this year's Lotusphere. On of the most interesting sessions, was by Lance Spellman of WorkflowStudios who demonstrated a framework based on Domino's DXL and he has made it available at FaceliftForDomino.
In addition to the tools for Facelift, you'll want a debugger and Joe Hewitt has released an update to Firebug, a Firefox extension which includes an XMLHttpRequest spy. You can also download it from the Mozilla site.
