The Mood Is Upbeat for Lotusphere '06
I've taken a few digicam shots of LS '06 and will be continuing to post them at Flickr.
At prior Lotusphere events, I've always filled out my dance card in advance. But, this year is different—there are simply too many great sessions to be able to make all the ones that look interesting. This is going to be a tough week.
Tomorrow, I'll be attending the Business Partner day. Traditionally, the current Lotus head will make announcements, sometimes give out awards, provide analysis of trends and then sit back and weather an open-mike session. Oftentimes, the audience is asked to maintain the courtesy of keeping secrets for a day or two (before Monday's morning session). In the afternoon, I'll be meeting with the Lotus Education channel to discuss their release schedule, new offerings, and (hopefully) more information about the adaption of ElementK for curriculum distribution.
Everyone I've talked to is very eager to try out the jumpstart sessions as a way to kick the tires on everything from clustering servers to trying out Workplace. Last year a turn was made for the attitude of Domino professionals, this year it's clear the momentum continues.
As for blogging, at Lotusphere, it's completely insane. Richard Swartz has identified sixty Lotusphere bloggers. Sixty! I was hoping to keep abreast of what everyone else was writing, to avoid repeating the same accounts and impressions. But, forget it—I don't have time to review sixty bloggers. So, I'll just write up what I see and post it as often as I can.
I'm staying at the Carrbbean, which has hidden their free WiFi access. You can buy Internet access in the hotel rooms for an additional $9.95 a day, but even for a Disney theme hotel inspired by Captain Hook, I consider it piracy. Fortunately, I lucked out and was able to find a hot spot.
