Make It Fun And Sexy Again
Today was a combination of Business Partner Development Day, spending time with Lotus Education, and talking to friends and clients. I was surprised by Stephan Wissel, who recognized me right out of the crowd. He has a great talk on integrating WebDav and Domino into a file server.
Mike Rhodin, the General Manager, spoke at the morning Business Partner session, and identified the current license count at 125 million, giving double-digit growth for 2005. In Mike's words, “good things are starting to happen.” Domino V7.0 has already achieved seventy-thousand downloads.
Ken Bisconti, Vice President, gave a few hints for tomorrow (but not many), about Sametime now being an application platform. He also pointed out that Domino V7 has had a faster adoption rate than any other release.
I've heard both Ken and Mike before, and they are always clear-headed and direct with their message to Business Partners. But, I've never heard Surjit Chana, Vice President (Marketing and Partners), who had the audience clapping and whistling with his list of priorities. His priority number one is “Grow Domino.” And, his fifth priority is to “take the gloves off.” He was impassioned as he explained that IBM was no longer going to treat FUD campaigns with passivity: “we are not taking any more bullshit.”
Right there on the screen was the message aimed at keeping the hearts of the Business Partners:
